FHWA
The ADOT Civil Rights Office works in close coordination with the Arizona Division of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The FHWA provides guidance regarding the implementation of federal civil rights law, technical and regulatory expertise, and resources for the administration of critical programs.
In the fall of 2010 the FHWA, ADOT, and the Maricopa County Department of Tranpsortation collaborated to host a national workshop on DBE inclusion and workforce development. Arizona was selected as one of ony five communities from across the country to participate in this national initiative. The event was limited to a relatively small group of stakeholders which included Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs), prime contractors, prime consultants, industry representatives such as the Arizona Chapter of the AGC, and agency personnel. FHWA local and headquarters representatives were also key contributors and the day and a half event was facilitated by national and local consultants. Approximtely 125 people were in attendance. The FHWA DBE Workforce Development Workshop Report provides a detailed accounting of the event.
ADOT committed to ensuring that the Fall 2010 workshop was not a one-time activity but rather the beginning of a more comprehensive collaboration process. As a result, the ADOT DBE Supportive Services Program will be conducting follow-on FHWA Workshop activities throughout 2011. This effort to continue to engage stakeholders will be documented via this page. If you are interested in additional information regarding this effort, please contact DBE Supportive Services at dbesupportiveservices@azdot.gov.
