The case study exercise simulates real world business experiences and gives the participants a chance to tackle much larger issues, such as those that affect the entire organizations and subjects. The course aims to teach participants to work within their organizations, peers and groups, gathering information and gaining consensus within specific time frames.

Learning Objectives

Over the past few months, ADOT staff and a group of consulting firms formed a team to develop a standardized list of labor classifications and definitions to be used on contracts administered through the Engineering Consultants Section (ECS) to help expedite the contract negotiation process.

ECS would like your firm’s feedback on the proposed labor classes and definitions, because once approved, the new Labor Classifications will be the ONLY Labor Classifications that can be proposed and approved on ECS contracts. Consulting firms will need to fit their staff proposed on ECS contracts into one of these labor classes regardless of what title/name the firm currently uses to describe the classification. The hope is that all labor classifications used by your firm will fit into one or more of the classifications/definitions on the list.

Next week, ECS plans to release a survey to allow your firm to provide the Team with feedback on the proposed labor classes and definitions. Attached is a list of the proposed classifications as they stand now. Reviewing this document with staff within your firm should enable your firm to proceed with completing the survey more quickly once it’s released. Labor Classifications are divided into 5 categories: Engineering/General, Construction, Environmental, Survey, and Right of Way. Your firm may comment on as many categories as is applicable. We ask that your firm only complete the survey once.

The Team will review survey responses and make revisions to the proposed labor classifications and definitions, as needed. The goal is to implement the use of the standardized list of labor classifications and definitions on or after July 1, 2012.

You will be notified when the survey has been released.
Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 602-712-4894 or Barb Domke at 602-712-6468
Thanks in advance for taking the time to review the Labor Classifications and their definitions.
