ADOT DBE/SS Provides Financial Handbook Free to DBEs, SBCsNov 13, 2013
English and Spanish Financial Guides Available Online
ADOT DBE Supportive Services program (DBE/SS) is making the online booklet entitled Financial Services Handbook for Small and Disadvantaged Businesses available on its blog and website. A reference tool and guide for small business financing, the handbook covers everything from microloans and capital funding to bonds and insurance. The guide is available in English and Spanish.
The handbook was written to support the Financial Services Workshop, which took place on November 7 in Phoenix. Over 70 people attended the event to identify and understand their financial options. The booklet’s online availability is a way to disseminate the information to DBEs and small businesses that were unable to attend.
Small business owners, especially those located in rural areas in Arizona, have reported difficulty in attending events that take them away from their businesses. ADOT DBE/SS has made a number of training and materials available online for DBEs and Small Business Concerns, including the ADOT Academy for the Advancement of DBEs, biweekly blog updates of DBE News & Events, DBE task force meeting minutes, and the handbook. The DBE Supportive Services program is designed and funded by USDOT Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to assist qualified minority- and woman-owned businesses to become certified as Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms. Once certified, the program strives to assist DBE firms to get work on federal-aid contracts and to become self-sufficient in their respective industries. A variety of training programs and technical assistance is provided by the Supportive Services program staff to assist DBEs in meeting these goals.
Companies registered as Small Business Concerns (SBC) can also participate in conferences and training offered to DBEs. For more information on the SBC program, click here.
